Obituary

Ceasar R. Torres, Jr. , 85, of Plain St. passed away on March 1, 2009 surrounded by his family. Born in Fall River, son of the late Ceasar R. & Mary (Cardoza) Torres. A decorated Army Veteran of WWII, he was the recipient of 2 Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and the Croix de Guerre Palm from the French Government. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was credited with single handedly capturing 40 German soldiers. He was a custodian at Newport's Naval War College before retiring in 1986. A lifelong parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church, he was active in their Holy Name Society, St. Vincent de Paul Society and was the First Scout Master of their Boy Scout Troop 27. He was a life member of the VFW, DAV and the Fall River Elks. An avid golfer, he was a long time member of Montaup CC. He was father of Deborah Pierce (husband- Fred); grandfather of Frederick and Matthew Pierce; great grandfather of Tyler Pierce; brother of Henry Torres and the late Mary L. Torres. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Anthony of Padua Church. Pallbearers Fred and Matt Peirce, Michael Torres, Jordon Tessier, John and Albert Torress brough Ceasar to his final resting place at St. Patrick Cemetery where his committal service was held with full military honors.
