Cecilia M. Coroa, 97, of Somerset, wife of the late Atty. Gilbert M. Coroa, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Fall River, daughter of the late John "Canadinha" Medeiros and the late Maria (Souza) Medeiros, she was a 1945 BMC Durfee High School graduate.
In her younger years Cecilia worked at the family variety store when her brothers went to serve in WWII. She enjoyed ballroom dancing and participating in a local bowling league. She was employed at Newport Finishing, where she met her husband, Gil. They married in 1957. She left the workforce for over 20 years to start a family and raise her three children which she did solely, after the sudden death of her husband in 1973. Cecilia eventually returned to the workforce with the Fall River Diocese at St. Patrick's Cemetery office in Fall River until her retirement in 1996. She enjoyed traveling, family gatherings and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a longstanding parishioner of St Patrick's Church in Somerset.
She is survived by: two children, Atty. John Gilbert Coroa (wife Susan) of Somerset and Lisa Mae Coroa-Bockley (husband Erich) of North Reading, MA; son-in-law, Richard Andrews of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Pauline Fernandez of Rockland, MA; six grandchildren, Matthew Gilbert Coroa, John Edward Coroa, Kimberly Mae Bockley, Karisa Rose Bockley, Alexandra Marie Andrews, Elizabeth Grace Andrews and numerous nieces and nephews. Cecilia was predeceased by her daughter, Tracey Lee Andrews, and siblings, Mary Silvester, Manuel "Zip" Medeiros, John Medeiros, Jr., Joseph Medeiros, Antone S. Medeiros, Alfred S. Medeiros, and Lionel S. Medeiros.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, February 1st, at Our Lady of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Church in Somerset followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
