Charles
Furtado
d. Mar 14, 2017
Somerset
Charles Furtado, of Somerset, loving husband of Eva (Paiva) Furtado, passed away on March 14, 2017. Born in Fall River, son to the late Joseph and Mary (Tavares) Furtado. Charles was a Design Draftsman for Advanced Interconnections until his retirement. He was a proud veteran of WW II, having served with the U.S. Army in the CBI Theater. Officially established on June 22, 1942, The China-Burma-India Theater is often referred to as the The Forgotten Theater of World War II. Of the 12,300,000 Americans under arms at the height of World War II mobilization, only about 250,000 (two percent) were assigned to the CBI Theater, making CBI veterans more unique than just a slogan. An avid stamp collector, he also enjoyed fishing, traveling, and maintaining his property. Besides his wife of 66 years, he leaves four Godchildren, Charles Bettencourt and his wife Brenda, Ronald Bettencourt, Ann Marie Aguiar and her husband William, and Kenneth Paiva and his wife Kimberly; and several cousins. He was especially thankful to his oldest Godchild, Charles Bettencourt, who was always caring and attentive to his needs. He was also the brother of the late Mary Bettencourt and her late husband Manuel and the late Leonora Resendes and her husband Jeremias (living). His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, March 20th, in St. John of God Church, Somerset, followed by his committal with military honors at the Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum in Fall River. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Charlie's memory to your charity of choice.
