Obituary

Dana W. Melcher, age 65, of Somerset, Massachusetts, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Saint Anne's Hospital in Fall River, Massachusetts, following an extended illness. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was a son of the late George S. Melcher and the late Eleanor (Hall) Melcher. The Melcher family moved to Tiverton, RI, in 1952, where Dana was raised and resided for most of his life. He was a graduate of Rogers High School in Newport, RI, and a former member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Tiverton. Dana's father, George, a former shooting instructor in the U. S. Army, established the Rhode Island Marksmen Association in Tiverton, where the Melcher boys learned to shoot. Dana competed with the Senior Rifle Team in the Rhode Island Rifle and Revolver Association League and was a Coach and Range Officer with the Junior Rifle Program. He was also a member of the NRA. Surviving family members include his four brothers; Dennis W. Melcher of Somerset, MA, Dwayne W. Melcher of Charlestown, MA, Darryl W. Melcher of Somerset, and Dean W. Melcher of Tiverton, a sister, Dianne W. (Melcher) Norris of Rexburg, ID, and many nieces and nephews. His Memorial Service was held on Friday, August 9, in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Tiverton. Dana's remains were laid to rest with his parents at Pocasset Hill Cemetery also in Tiverton will be held at a later date.
