Obituary

Loving Father, Grandfather and cherished member of the community, Daniel S. Lima, passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 06, 2025, at St Anne's Hospital in Fall River at the age of 78. Born in Lomba da Fazenda, Nordeste, Sao Miguel, Azores, a son of the late Humberto da Costa Lima and the late Armenia Raposo Sousa Lima, he emigrated to the US in the mid-1960s where he resided in Dartmouth for most of his life – living in Florida for the past 15 years.

Daniel was best known in the community as the owner and proprietor of Lima Travel of Fall River for many years until his retirement in 2009. He was a longtime member of the Portuguese Sports Club of New Bedford and played soccer for them in the Luso American Soccer Association (LASA) during his younger days. Throughout the late 80's and 90's, Daniel was also a member of the Ateneu Luso Americano social club in Fall River.

He was extremely devoted to his loving companion of many years, Lourdes Mota. Daniel is also survived by: two children, Roberto D. Lima (wife Michelle) of New Bedford and Jennifer S. Lima-Pimental (husband Eric) of Somerset; a brother, Eduardo S. Lima of Dartmouth; three grandchildren, Jamison Lima, Christian Pimental, and Micah Lima; and many nieces and nephews. Daniel was predeceased by two siblings: Maria Natalia Sousa Lima and Humberto Sousa Lima.

Daniel's greatest joy was the time spent with his children and grandchildren. He could often be found cheering at his grandchildren's sporting events, attending one of their musicals or plays, or listening to his son's band, Legacy, on the weekends. Daniel loved music of all kinds. If he wasn't playing the guitar or accordion for his family, friends or neighbors, he was listening to the Portuguese marching bands during the local summer feasts.

Following a private cremation, His Memorial Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, March 1st, at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fall River. Private committal and interment of cremains will take place at a later time in Sao Miguel, Azores. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Daniel's memory to: American Heart Association, 93 Worcester St., Wellesley, MA 02481; (781) 373-4500; https://www.heart.org/en/affiliates/massachusetts , or Forever Paws Animal Shelter, 300 Lynwood St, Fall River, MA 02721; 508-677-9154; https://www.foreverpaws.com/.
