Daniel J. Lopes, age 86, of Swansea, MA, and formerly of Tiverton, RI, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2007, at the Haven Health Center in Warren, RI. He was the husband of the late Rita F. (Joubert) Lopes. Born in Tiverton, he was a son of the late Manuel Lopes and the late Helena (Correia) Lopes. A World War II Veteran of the United States Army, he was employed for thirty years as a Fiduciary Accounts Examiner by the Veterans Administration. He was member of the Elks in Bristol, RI. Daniel, an avid golfer, operated the pro shop and gave golfing lessons for fifteen years at the former Pocasset Country Club in Portsmouth, RI. Surviving family members include a son, Dennis J. Lopes of Swansea, a daughter, Barbara F. Soares of Wrentham, MA, a brother, William Lopes of Somerset, MA, a sister, Olive Silvia of Tiverton, two granddaughters, a great grandson and several nieces and nephews. He was also a brother of the late Edelle Lopes, John Lopes, Anthony Lopes, Manuel Lopes, Mary Hannon, Christine Souza, Clementine Perry and Sister Rose Lopes. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, January 4, 2008, from the Silva-Faria Funeral Home, with a Funeral Mass offered in Holy Ghost Church in Tiverton. Committal services and military honors were held in Pocasset Hill Cemetery, also in Tiverton.
