Daniel Torres, age 87, passed away in Somerset on Friday, November 11, 2011, following an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Annamai Doris (Hunt) Torres. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Antonio Torres and the late Mary (Carvalho) Torres. Residing in Swansea since 1979, he was employed for many years with United States Postal Service and also worked at Stop & Shop for many years after retiring from the USPS. A World War II Veteran of the United States Army, Sgt. Torres earned several awards, including the Bronze Star, for his service with the 88th Infantry Division in the European African Middle Eastern Theater of Operations. He was a communicant of St. Dominic's Parish in Swansea and a member of the American Legion Post 303 in Ocean Grove. Daniel, an avid sports fan, enjoyed following the college and major league teams of New England, however, it was the Boston Red Sox that always held a special appeal for him. Survivors include his sister, Mary Gracia of Somerset, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Elvira Raposa Torres, Antone Torres, David Torres, and Leonard Torres. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at St. Dominic Church in Swansea followed by a committal with military honors at Newport Memorial Park in Middletown, RI.
