Obituary

Delfina Borges, 94, widow of Joao Borges, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025, at home surrounded by family. Born in Remedios da Bretanha, Sao Miguel, Azores, she resided in Fall River for most of her life.

Prior to her retirement, Delfina was employed for many years in the local textile industry, at Shelburne Shirt for 24 years and at Santoro for 4. She was also a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) now UNITE.

A very devout Catholic, Delfina was an active parishioner of St. Michael's Church where she was a longtime eucharistic minister and had also sung in the choir. Mostly she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by: three children, John Borges (wife Theresa), Anna Cabral (husband Greg), and Michael Borges (wife Carol); a sister, Margarida Torres; six grandchildren, Scott Borges, Branden Borges, David Borges, Cody Borges, Andrew Cabral, and Paige Borges; two great grandchildren, Noah and Carter; and several nieces and nephews. Delfina was predeceased by four siblings, Manuel Albernaz, Antonio Albernaz, Maria da Gloria Miranda, and Frank Albernaz.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, February 13th, St. Michael's Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Delfina's memory to Saint Michael's Church, 189 Essex Street, Fall River, MA 02720; 508-672-6713.
