Deolinda Vasconcelos, 94, of Fall River, widow of Luis D. Vasconcelos, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Catholic Memorial Home. Born in Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Manuel Remigio Fernandes and the late Guilhermina (Alves de Viveiros) Fernandes, she emigrated to the U. S. in 1963 and resided in Fall River most of her life.
Prior to her retirement in 1983, Deolinda was employed in the local garment industry for many years and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (I.L.G.W.U., now called UNITE). A talented seamstress, she would often make clothes for her family. Deolinda was also a gifted artist.
A devout Catholic, Deolinda was an active parishioner at Espirito Santo Church and a former member of its Holy Rosary Society. She especially enjoyed her involvement in the Charismatic Movement of the Fall River Diocese.
She is survived by: three sons, Ramiro "Ray" Vasconcelos (wife Lucy) of Tiverton, RI, Louis Vasconcelos of Fall River, and David Vasconcelos (wife Tina) of Lakeville; two siblings, Jose Fernandes and Otilia Silveira both of Canada; four grandchildren, Ryan Vasconcelos of Tiverton, Alexander Vasconcelos of Fall River, Katherine Vasconcelos of Johnston, RI, and Amanda Vasconcelos of San Francisco, CA; and many nieces and nephews. She was also a sister of the late Maria Viveiros, Manuel Fernandes, and Gilda Salvador.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, February 9th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
