Obituary

Dinis P. Miranda, age 92, passed away at home on Sunday, February 5, 2012. He was the husband of Maria Couto (Raposo) Miranda of Westport, Massachusetts. Born in the village of Bretanha, on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel P. Miranda and the late Maria Rosa (Pacheco) Miranda. After residing in Sao Miguel for forty eight years, and serving four years in the Portuguese Army, he immigrated with his family to Fall River in 1967, and was naturalized as a citizen of the United States in 2000. He was employed as a presser for many years at River Falls Manufacturing in Fall River until his retirement in 1982. A man of deep faith, he was a communicant of Espirito Santo Church on Alden Street in Fall River, where he attended Mass daily and was a member of the Holy Name Society. Although Dinis liked fishing very often, his favorite pastime was enjoying the company of his family. In addition to Maria, his wife of sixty three years, he leaves three sons; Joseph Miranda, and wife Zelia, Dinis H. Miranda and Leonel Miranda, and wife Natalia, all of Deltona, Florida, two daughters; Rose Raposo and husband Bert, and Ana Lima and husband Anselmo, all of Westport, ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, in Espirito Santo Church. He was laid to rest at Notre Dame Cemetery.
