Obituary

Domingos Medeiros, age 89, a resident of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, since 1996, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Dolores (Almeida) Medeiros. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Domingos Medeiros and the late Maria Luisa (Almeida) Medeiros. In 1929, at the age of 5, the Medeiros family moved to their native village of Mosteiros, on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores. After residing in the Azores for twenty years, Domingos returned to Fall River and was married a year later in 1949. A union laborer in the construction trade, he worked for the former Germane Construction Company for many years, and also worked in the textile industry of this city at Ross Matthews Corp. He was a member of the Construction & General Laborers Union, Local 610 in Fall River. Domingos was also a member of St. Georges Church in Westport, and a former parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fall River. In addition to Dolores, his wife of 63 years, surviving family members include his daughter, Mary Isabel "Izzy" Furtado & husband John of Westport, a grandson John David Furtado & wife Nancy, a granddaughter, Tammy Morgan, four great grandchildren; Matthew Furtado, Kyle Furtado, DJ Morgan and Jacob Morgan, all of Dartmouth, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late, Manuel Medeiros, Diniz Medeiros, Joseph Medeiros and Hilda Silva. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, February 21, 2014, in St. George's Church, Westport followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
