Rogers
d. Jan 10, 2024
Donald Rogers, 84, of Fall River, husband of Arlene (Byrne) Rogers, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 in the comforts of his home following a long illness. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Alfred Rogers and the late Mary (Macedo) Rogers.
Prior to his retirement he was a Union Carpenter (Local 1305) in the construction industry for many years. After his retirement, he continued to work at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School. He loved the students and received special recognition from the school for his performance. He was also inducted into the Diman Hall of Fame. For many years he coached and refereed youth hockey and served as the President of the Fall River Youth Hockey League. He was a member of the Colonial Navy Marching Band, and volunteered at Charlton Memorial Hospital as a greeter. A longtime parishioner of Holy Name Church, he served as Eucharist Minister and graciously volunteered for many church activities. He also enjoyed going on Caribbean cruises and traveling to such places as Florida, Mexico, London, Alaska, and Medjugorje. But what was most important to Don was spending quality time with his family.
Besides his devoted wife of 64 years, he leaves his loving children, Barbara A. Dickinson and her husband, Wayne, of Somerset, and David J. Rogers and his wife, Suzann, of Swansea; his three grandchildren, Kenneth K. Blakey (Gigi Tierney), Kevin M. Blakey (Carissa Blakey), and Megan G. Rogers (Erik McCoy); six great-grandchildren, Freya Blakey, Anika Blakey, Killian Blakey, Finnegan Blakey, Hunter Shelton, and Connor Shelton; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of Richard Rogers (Claire Rogers) of Hudson, FL and also the late Alfred Rogers, Jr. and the late Barbara Rogers.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, January 18th, in Holy Name Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Don's memory to: Hospice -Southcoast Visiting Nurses Association, 200 Mill Road, Fairhaven, MA, 02719.
