Doris Emma (Brenker) Austin passed away on Wednesday, the 4th of May, 2011, at the Wedgemere Golden Living Center in Taunton, Massachusetts. A long-time resident of the Dighton area, she was the widow of Alfred F. Austin, Jr. Born in Torrington Connecticut in 1916, she was the daughter of the late Charles Brenker and the late Anna Wells (Hoffmann) Brenker. A graduate of Torrington High School, class of 1934, she was employed as a stenographer at the Torrington Company from 1935 until her enlistment in the Navy in March of 1943. After basic training in New York, she was shipped to the Naval Hospital Training School in Philadelphia. Doris proudly served her country during WWII as a member of the United States Navy Medical Corps at the Naval Hospitals in Norfolk and Portsmouth, VA, before retiring from active duty at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Pharmacist's Mate First Class Doris Brenker continued to serve in the Navy Reserve for some time at the US Naval Hospital Corps School in Bethesda. She was a life long member of the Order of Eastern Star and a communicant of the Church of Our Saviour in Somerset, MA. Surviving family members include her three children; Alfred C. Austin and his wife Virginia of Millville, NJ, the Rev. Thomas F. Austin and his wife Barbara of Upper Deerfield, NJ, and Sue Ann (Austin) Parchesco and her husband Stephen C. Parchesco of Dighton, MA. She was also the loving grandmother of seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A celebration of Doris's life was held on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at the Church of Our Saviour, in Somerset.
