Dorothy
Lay
d. Nov 12, 2019
North Dartmouth
Dorothy (Oliveira) Lay, 92, of North Dartmouth, passed away at her residence with her loving family by her side at the age of 92 on November 12, 2019. Born in Fall River the daughter of the late Manuel H. Oliveira and Margaret (Fernandes) Oliveira. Ms. Lay worked as the office manager for Fall River Manufacturing overseeing the operations of five factories for over twenty-five years. During her time in Fall River, Dorothy attended the former Immaculate Conception Church and was active in fundraising events for the Catholic schools that her children attended. In her early fifties she pursued a second career as a personal companion. This exciting chapter of her life culminated with her time spent working for Mitzi Newhouse. Dorothy spent ten glamourous years with Mrs. Newhouse attending events and traveling the world up until Mitzi's passing in 1989 with Dorothy by her side.
Dorothy will always be remembered for her elegance. She had a flair for the dramatic and a love of everything sequins, lace and fur. She was extremely proud of her three children and eight grandchildren and could often be heard singing their praises. Dorothy enjoyed baking for her grandchildren and for her daughter's work functions. Her pineapple upside down cake was a fan favorite. Dorothy took great pride in the home she made in North Dartmouth with her daughter Cheryl. In her golden years she enjoyed spending time at home watching murder mysteries and game shows with her beloved cat Zoey beside her.
She is survived by: her three children, Debra Lay-Renkens and her husband Kenneth L. Renkens, MD of Indianapolis, IN, Randall R. Lay and his wife Betsy of St. Petersburg, FL, and Cheryl L. Normandin and her partner Abe Abdallah of North Dartmouth; eight grandchildren Jonathan Lay, Gregory Lay, Kristy Normandin, Ashley Lay, Eric Renkens, Tiffany Boulanger, Sarah Sharp and Tennie Smith, MD; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Doreene McDonald of Aurora, OH and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Manuel "Cobby" Oliveira and the late Ruth Munroe. A private celebration of life was held by the family.
