Obituary

Dorry A. Silvia, 61, of Fairhaven, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 after a brief illness. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late David Silvia and the late Elaine (Machado) Silvia.

For 23 years, Dorry worked at St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River as a Unit Coordinator. She was well known for going above and beyond for the staff and patients at the hospital. She showed the same commitment to patient care when she provided for her family in times of illness. Toward the end of her life, her dedication to caring for others was met in kind with an outpouring of care for her.

In 2012, Dorry co-founded Duke's Bakery with her life partner Christine Holden. Duke's became and still remains the leading provider of gluten-free baked goods and meals in the South Coast. Her work ethic was only to be outdone by her unparalleled generosity and sense of humor. Affectionately referred to as "Mama Dukes" by staff and customers, Duke's Bakery became not just a well-established eatery, but a close-knit community.

Dorry was an avid New England Patriots fan, famously attending a Christmas Eve game with her partner and grandson against the Miami Dolphins in blistering weather conditions. She also loved the beach, trips to the casino, cruises, and traveling to such places as Las Vegas, Florida, Cape Cod, and the Bahamas. But her true passion in life was her bakery and her family, especially her grandsons.

Besides her life partner, Christine, she leaves: her loving daughter, Tonya Silvia-Ferreira and her husband, Marco, of Westport; Christine's son, Dennis Holden, her five grandsons, Timothy Silvia and his fiance, Jessica Costa, Marco Ferreira, Jr., Brenden Ferreira, Mason Ferreira, and Brody Fox; one sister, Pamela Ferro (late husband, Jose) of Fairhaven; and several nephews, aunts, and uncles. She was also the sister of the late David Silvia II.

Her Memorial Gathering was held on Sunday, July 18th, in our Fall River Chapel followed by a Celebration of Her Life at her beloved Duke's Bakery.
