Obituary

Eduarda M. Almeida, 91, of Fall River, widow of Luis do Rego Almeida, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2024. Born in St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Manuel Medeiros Almeida and the late Guilhermina (Cabral) Almeida, she first emigrated to Canada in 1963 then to Fall River in 1968.

She worked as a seamstress in the local textile industry for many years, retiring from the former Shelburne Shirt, and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (I.L.G.W.U., now called UNITE). Eduarda was then  privately employed for a number of years as a housekeeper and caregiver. She enjoyed crocheting and, as a member of the New Hope Christian Church of Swansea, she very much enjoyed listening to the word of God.

She is survived by: three children, Maria Medeiros (husband Manuel), Lydia Couto (partner Don Drake), and Luis Almeida (wife Linda) all of Fall River; eight siblings, Margaret Sousa of East Providence, RI, Migual Almeida of Somerset, Manuel Almeida and Jose Almeida both of Fall River, Luisa Pires of Dartmouth, Julio Almeida of Arkansas, Tony Almeida of Assonet, and Mary Estrella of Rehoboth; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Eduarda was the mother of the late Dimas M. Almeida; and sister of the late Dimas Medeiros.

Her Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, April 9th, in our Fall River Chapel followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Eduarda's memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284; 800-525-4669; www.dana-farber.org/gift.
