Obituary

Edward Araujo, 90, of Fall River, husband of the late Mary (Martin) Araujo, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the Catholic Memorial Home following a long illness. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Manuel de Araujo and the late Antonia da Conceicao (Medeiros) Araujo.

A United States Army Veteran, he bravely and proudly served our country during the Korean Conflict. Prior to his retirement he worked a meat cutter for local food services for many years. An avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, he also loved fishing, reading the Fall River Herald Newspaper, watching soccer, and, in his younger days, playing semi-pro soccer.  A man of few words, Edward led a simple life, worked exceptionally hard to provide for his family and was always eager and willing to help anyone in need. He was also a long-time member of the Progressive Club in Somerset where he enjoyed socializing with many of his friends. Most notably, Edward was a devout Catholic, a truly devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who very much valued the quality time spent with all of his family. He leaves his loving daughter, Sandra A. Poirier and her husband, Mark, of Seekonk; his two grandchildren, Jacob Poirier and Corinne Spillane; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late John Araujo and the late Gilda Coelho.

Following his cremation, His Memorial Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, February 8th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal with military honors at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Somerset. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Edward's memory to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
