Edward Correia, 87, formerly of Fall River where he was known as the "Mayor of Bay Village", passed away on August 29, 2008 in Somerset. Husband of the late Alice (Tavares) Correia. Born in Fall River, son of the late Antone and Mary (Perry) Correia. He retired from the City of Fall River Public Works Department in 1982. An Army Veteran of WW II, he was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He attended the North End Senior Citizens Center and sang with the Whipping Willows. An avid Red Sox and Bruins fan, Ed enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Father of Elaine Habib of Somerset and the late Edward Correia, Jr. Brother of Lydia Matti, Beatrice Torres, Magdalena Webb, and the late Evelyn LeBlanc, Velma Tavares, Manuel and Louis Correia. He also leaves 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 3 aunts, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and family gathered at Grace Gospel Church for his funeral service. Pallbearers Chris Farias, Michael and Jermey Matti, Billy and Jim Tavares and Mark Correia brought Edward to his final resting place at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
