Edward W. Ferreira, 91, of Swansea, husband of the late Bella (Silvia) Ferreira, died Thursday 4/24/14 in Crestwood Nursing Home, Warren, RI after a lengthy illness. Born in Fall River, son of the late Antone & Gertrude (Rogers) Ferreira, he resided in Swansea for over 60 years. A graduate of BMC Durfee HS, & Waltham School of Watchmaking, he repaired timepieces at Ross Jewelers & the Newport Mansions before working as a USPS letter carrier out of Somerset Post Office for over 30 years. A World War II Navy veteran & Purple Heart Recipient, he was wounded in action 4 times while serving in the Pacific Theatre Campaign, including the Battle of Guadalcanal. He was a member of the 7 ^th Day Adventist Church of No. Main St. in Fall River, and a Freemason with the Massasoit Lodge Masonic Temple of Fall River. An avid gardener and sportsman, he enjoyed hunting & fishing, as well as whittling & playing guitar, but mostly cherished family, especially his grandchildren. Father of Edward W. Ferreira, Jr. (wife Claudia) of Rehoboth, Barry J. (companion Gail) & Jonathan (wife Karen) Ferreira and Robin Ann Ferreira Holt (husband Allan) all of Swansea. Brother of David Ferreira (wife Frances) of Westport, and the late Daniel Ferreira, Genevieve Germaine & Ruth Oliveira. Grandfather of Kyle, Jasson, Joshua, Dylan, Ashley & Carley. Great grandfather of Michael, Jacob, Katherine, Angelique & Daniel, and the late Victoria Lynn. He also leaves several nieces & nephews. His Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, April 29, in our Somerset Chapel followed by his committal with military honors at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Swansea.
