Edward A. Grota, 78, of Smithfield, formerly a 30 year resident of Rehoboth, passed away Monday, June 14, at R. I. Hospital. Devoted husband of Ann Marie (Moniz) Grota for over 56 years, and son of the late Joaquim and Irene (Bento) Grota. Loving father of the late Edward A. Grota, Jr. Survived by his sons, Robert J. Grota and his wife Karen of Smithfield, Allen D. Grota and his wife Jan of Las Vegas, NV, and Steven A. Grota of Uxbridge, MA. Grandfather of Jeannelle, Danielle, Nicholas, Steven, Angela and Holly Grota. Brother of Marie Paquin and William Grota of Citrus Springs, FL, Irene Grota and Lawrence Grota of Tiverton, and the late Joseph and John Grota. Four step-grandchildren, Tiffany, Ryan, Robert (Nick), and Justin Spurling, four step-great grandchildren, Branden, Christopher, Scott and Jared. Upon his discharge from the Army, he began a 43 year career as a Civil Engineer with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He was the Resident Engineer of several major projects, including Rt. 495, Rt. 24, Rt. 195 and Rt. 79. He retired as District Finals Liaison Engineer for District Five of the Mass. Highway Dept. in 1996. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, June 18, in Holy Name Church, Fall River, followed by a committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
