Edward J. Sypek, 90, of Fall River, passed away Monday at the Jewish Home. Husband of Gilda (Domingos) Sypek to whom he was married for 64 years. Born in Fall River, son of the late Albert and Frances Sypek, after graduating from B.M.C. Durfee High School he went on to serve in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was an Army veteran in Korea where he was awarded three Bronze Service Stars. Eddie served on the Fall River Fire Department for 27 years, retiring as a Lieutenant, and, for many years, summered with his family on West Island. Beloved father of Edward S. Sypek (wife-Muriel) and Sheryl Zygiel (husband-Tom); grandfather of Ryan and Evan Sypek and Nellie Zygiel; brother of the late Frank, Romeo and Stanley Sypek, Henrietta Domingos, Mary Flynn and Esther Peterson. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Edward Correia on Saturday, February 14, in St. Anthony of Padua Church. He was buried at St. Patrick Cemetery.
