Obituary

Eleanor M. (Hall) Melcher, RN, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at the Country Gardens Skilled Nursing Center in Swansea, Massachusetts. She was the widow of George S. Melcher. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late William W. Hall, and the late Gertrude (Murphy) Hall. After her husband's retirement from the United States Army, the growing Melcher family moved to Tiverton, RI, in 1952. An Alumna of the Rhode Island Hospital Nursing School in Providence, RI, she worked for most of her career at the former Truesdale Hospital in Fall River, retiring in 1985 after several years at Charlton Memorial Hospital, also in Fall River. Eleanor was a member, and former Sunshine Lady, of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Tiverton. She was a member of the Charlton Memorial Retirees and the Ocean State Seniors. Surviving family members include her six children; Dennis W. Melcher and Dana W. Melcher, both of Somerset, MA, Dianne W. (Melcher) Norris of Rexburg, ID, Dwayne W. (Kathleen) Melcher of Charlestown, MA, Darryl W. (Arlene) Melcher of Somerset, MA, and Dean W. (Nancy) Melcher of Tiverton, RI. She also leaves a brother, Norman W. Hall of Middletown, RI, fourteen grandchildren; Kerri McKinnon of Swansea, Jason Norris of Millville, UT, Kristen DeChillis of Somerset, Caitlin Koyle of Billerica, MA, Jonathan Norris of Boise, ID, Jeremy Melcher of Bridgewater, MA, George Melcher of Tiverton, Joshua Melcher of Fall River, Breanne Lufkin of Rexburg ID, Heather Anderson of Davenport, IA, Dana Melcher of Tiverton, Halle Melcher & Shana Melcher, both of Charlestown, MA, and Dean Melcher of Tiverton, twenty great grandchildren; Brock, Cordellia, Julia, Mikele, Allison, Kyle, Makenna, Kassie, Avri, Katelyn, Samuel, Hayli, Allie, Emery, Emily, Rachel, Ashlyn, Kaydin, Claire and Aidan, and several nieces and nephews. Eleanor was also the mother in law of the late David Norris. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, November 19, 2011, at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Main Road in Tiverton, Rhode Island. Eleanor's cremated remains were laid to rest with her husband, George, at the Pocasset Hill Cemetery, also in Tiverton.
