Obituary

Eleanor "Ellie" Wetterauw, 87, of Fall River, formerly of West Rupert, Vermont and Allendale, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by loved ones, after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Evan Wetterauw. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Ellie was the daughter of the late Charles Godfrey Smith and Elizabeth Mary (Joor) Smith.

Ellie spent much of her professional life as a Guidance Secretary at Northern Highlands Regional High School in New Jersey, where she was known for her warmth, attentiveness, and dedication to supporting students. After retiring to Vermont, she embraced her love of nature and community.

She was passionate about gardening, reading, and quilting, and enjoyed cross-country skiing, sewing, and walking with friends. A devoted member of her local card group, Ellie also gave back through years of volunteer service with the Girl Scouts, the American Red Cross, and the R.K. Kittay Public Library.

Ellie is survived by her loving children: Hannah Wetterauw and her partner, John Teixeira, of Massachusetts; Cheryl Wetterauw of New York; and Stephen Wetterauw and his wife, Mary, of New Jersey. She was a proud and cherished grandmother to five grandchildren: Kelsey Wetterauw, Shayne Zamudio, Lucas Camara, Tyler Camara, and Adam Zamudio. She was predeceased by her daughter, Betsy Wetterauw.

Following a private cremation, a committal service and burial of her cremains took place on Monday, June 23rd, 2025 at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.
