Elias Da
Ponte
d. May 10, 2021
Fall River
Elias Da Ponte, 91, of Fall River and husband of the late M. Guilhermina (Botelho) Da Ponte, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 10, 2021 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Arrifes, St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Agostinho Da Ponte and the late Gertrude (deAlmeida) Da Ponte.
Prior to his retirement, he worked at Plymouth Rubber as a machine operator for many years. He loved cooking, playing dominos, cards, and gardening, paying special attention to his grapevines and fruit trees. Elias also enjoyed making his own wine, going on cruises, and traveling to such places as his homeland in the Azores. But most important to him was spending quality time with his loving family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He leaves: his two daughters, Connie Amaral and her husband, Reverend John Amaral, of Swansea, and Natalie Arruda and her husband, Eddy, of Fall River; his three grandchildren, Regina Jean and her partner, John Mitchell, Kristal Cabral and her husband, Timothy, and Ryan Arruda; his four great-grandchildren, Noah Jean, Landon Jean, Timothy Cabral, and Charlotte Cabral; one sister, Orminda Duarte of the Azores; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Maria Jesus Da Ponte and the brother of the late Manuel, Moses, and Serafim Da Ponte.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, May 15th, in Espírito Santo Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
