Elvira DaLuz Correia, age 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Somerset, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, October 03, 2012. She was the widow of Manuel Correia. Born in the village of Candelaria, on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, she was the youngest of eleven children of the late Mariano and Filomena Pavao. After residing in the Azores for forty four years, she moved Fall River in 1960 and has resided in Somerset since 1998. Elvira was employed for many years in the garment trade of Fall River at the former San-Toro Manufacturing Company until her retirement in 1981. She was a communicant of St John of God Church in Somerset and a member of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. Surviving family members include her daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Maria Margaret) Mello of Somerset, daughter in law Mary-Jo Correia of Fall River, three grandchildren; Deborah Sousa of Somerset, Scott C. Mello and Alicia Correia, both of Fall River, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Manuel Correia, Jr., and grandmother of the late Patrick J. Mello. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, October 6, in St. John of God Church, Somerset, followed by her committal at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River.
