Elza C. DeMelo, 90, of Fall River, widow of Manuel P. DeMelo, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at St. Anne's Hospital. Born in St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Manuel Felipe Couto and the Maria Mauricio de Melo, she emigrated to Fall River in 1971.

Prior to her retirement in 1999, she was employed in the local textile industry for many years. Elza enjoyed sewing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by: a daughter, Maria Resendes (Jose) of Ontario; a stepson, Manuel DeMelo (Christyn) of Fall River; two sisters, Analia Melo of Montreal and Alice de Melo of Toronto; two grandsons, Joseph Resendes (Rosemary) and Steven Resendes (Ariana); step grandchildren, Kathy, Melody, and Cadence DeMelo; one great granddaughter, Mariana; and several nieces and nephews. Elza was predeceased by two sisters, Maria Resendes and Olinda Resendes.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, March 25th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by a private cremation. Her cremains were later buried with a private service at Notre Dame Cemetery.
