Ernest Elias Saab, 95, of Fall River, husband of the late Jeanne (Wernik) Saab, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Elias and Mary (Azar) Saab. A graduate of Southeastern Mass Institute of Technology, now UMass Dartmouth, he was employed as a textile engineer for the US Army, Natick Labs for over 35 years. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to all, Ernest was considered to be the "Patriach" of the family. An honorable and true gentleman, he loved gardening and traveling the world. A WWII Army Veteran, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart, the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and the Medal of the Jubilee of Liberty. He also received a Special Diploma from the French government, recognizing his extraordinarily brave actions and personal sacrifices in the fight to liberate France from the Axis Powers in World War II. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Lebanon-American Men's Society, and the St. Anthony of the Desert's Building Committee. In his younger days, he also played semi-pro football for the Fall River Rough Riders. He leaves: his children, Ernest E. Saab, Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Susan J. McHenry (late husband Michael) of Taunton, Jeanne Saab Silva of Swansea, and Elizabeth S. Lerner and her husband Scott of Hopedale, MA.; 7 grandchildren, Michael McHenry, Courtney McHenry, Jordan Silva and his wife Megan, Lindsay Bunn and her husband Lee, Katy Anguiano and her husband Missael, 1LT Troy Lerner USMC, and Evan Lerner; 6 great-grandchildren, Chad, Austin, Landon, Mason, McKenna, and Madisyn; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Rose Ayoub, William Saab, Victoria Howayeck, Helen Nahas, Adele Beshara, and Evelyn McAdams. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, August 10th, in St. Anthony of the Desert Church followed by his committal with Military Honors at St. Patrick Cemetery.
