Escolastica Tavares Pereira, age 82, passed away on May 1, 2009, following an extended illness. She was the widow of Armando A. Pereira, formerly of Claflin Street in Fall River. Born in the village of Remedios Bretanha on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, she was a daughter of the late Antonio Tavares and the late Isabel (Estacio) Tavares. After residing in the Azores for forty two years, she moved to Fall River in 1967 and was employed as a mender at the former Joan Fabrics for twenty years. Mrs. Pereira was an active parishioner of Espirito Santo Church and a member of their Holy Rosary Society for over thirty years. Surviving family members include her children, Mary T. Pimentel, Joseph M. Pereira, and Helen Pereira, all of Fall River, a sister, Helena De Medeiros of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews. She was also the mother of late Armando T. Pereira and a sister of the late Antonio Tavares, Manuel Tavares, Maria Isabel Tavares, Leonor Tavares, Rosa Tavares, Isabel Tavares and Constantina Tavares. Her funeral Mass was celebrated in Espirito Santo Church. Pallbearers Giovanni Pimental, Joseph A. Pereira, Philip Pereira, Jonathan Tremblay, Kenny Cabral and Anthony DeMedeiros brought Escolastica to her final resting place at St. Patrick Cemetery.
