Obituary

Ethel V. Garant, 95, of Fall River, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late Manual J. and Eliza (Serodio) Souza.

Widow of Lionel Garant, a Fall River firefighter, Ethel was delighted that her son and grandson followed in her husband's footsteps and also became firefighters. She was a member of the former Holy Rosary Parish and was employed by Cheryl Dress Manufacturing for many years.
Ethel was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for family and friends, especially for their annual Christmas Eve "open house" at their home. She enjoyed old Western TV shows and cooking shows (shoutout to Pioneer Woman, her favorite). She loved babysitting for her grandchildren, Lauren and Nick, when they were young. She would read countless books, teach them songs and nursery rhymes, and of course, cook for them.

She is survived by her son, Steven and daughter-in law, Linda Garant of Lakeville, MA, her sister Eliza (Souza) Machado, and grandchildren, Lauren Garant and partner Brendan Graham of Jamaica Plain, MA, and Nicholas Garant and his wife Cassandra of Fall River. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Lucy (Souza) Nunes.

Her Funeral Service was held on Thursday, November 10, in our Fall River Chapel followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Ethel's memory to her favorite charity, Smile Train at The World's Largest Cleft Charity | Smile Train.
