Eugenia DaCunha, 84, of New Bedford, widow of Jose L. DaCunha, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 after a brief illness. Back in the day, she loved to sing, dance, and perform on stage...but her best role was that of devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Most important to Eugenia was spending quality time with her fun-loving family. She loved cooking, baking, shopping, and getting all dressed up in her matching ensembles, always smiling and always looking her very best. Quick, witty, and sassy, Eugenia also enjoyed writing poems and acting as the neighborhood security "watchdog". She leaves: her three daughters, Filomena Stergiotis and her husband, Kiriakos, of New Bedford, Mary H. Fricke and her husband, Kenneth, of Hermiston, Oregon, and Lisa Marie Machnik and her husband, Stephen, of Dartmouth; six grandchildren, Joyce Gonsalves, Kevin Fricke, Jennifer Ferreira, Jason DaSilva, Brian Fricke, and Jarod Fricke; twelve great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to Thank Cindy Aguire from Steward Hospice for her compassionate care. Her Funeral Service was held on Monday, May 13th, in our Fall River Chapel followed by her committal at Oak Grove Cemetery.
