Eugenia S. Lopes, 98, of Fall River, wife of the late Jose DaCosta Lopes, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2022 at Clifton Nursing Home. Born in Ribeira Funda, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Antonio Soares and the late Maria Espirito Santo (Pereira) Soares.
Prior to her retirement she worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry for many years. She loved painting, sewing, gardening, and traveling extensively to such places as Italy, Brazil, Fatima, the Holy Land, and Madeira. A devout Catholic, she faithfully attended Mass and prayed the rosary daily. An excellent role model for all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Eugenia lovingly instilled high morals and practical standards in all of them.
She leaves her eight loving children, Jose Maria Soares Lopes and his wife, Arminda, of Fall River, Antone Soares Lopes and his wife, Ines, of the Azores, Cecilia Ponte and her husband, Evaristo, of Somerset, Maria DoCarmo Lopes Arruda and her husband, Francisco, of Fall River, Nazalia Lopes Lima of Fall River, Eugenia Rodrigues and her husband, Raul, of Somerset, Hermano Soares Lopes and his wife, Zelinda, of Fall River, and Maria Etelvina Leite and her husband, Joseph, of Somerset; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Etelvina Almeida and the late Angelica Medeiros.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, December 2nd, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery both in Fall River. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Eugenia's memory to a charity of one's choice.
