Eugenio C. Fontes, 62, of North Dartmouth, husband of Maria F. (Pontes) Fontes, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 23, 2018 after a brief illness. Born in Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Alirio R. and Deodata P. (Raposo) Fontes. He was a Mental Health Counselor for many years prior to his retirement. Eugenio was an avid F.C. Porto fan and passionately played soccer in his younger years for Santa Clara in the Azores. He also enjoyed discussions of current social events and world politics. But most important to him was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Besides his wife of thirty-nine years, he leaves: his three daughters, Naomi Tavares and her husband Arthur, Bianca Fontes, and Megan Fontes (Jonathan Aguiar), all of Fall River; three grandchildren, Owen E. Fontes, Autumn Aguiar, and Isabel Tavares; two brothers, Jose Maria Fontes and his wife Isabel and Alirio Fontes, both of Portugal; five sisters, Alda Reis (late-husband Joao), Fatima Oliveira and her husband Norman, Adelaide DosAnjos (late-husband Alfredo), Rosalina Fontes, all of Fall River, and Anabela Garcia and her husband Jorge of North Dartmouth; and many nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, December 31st, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
