Everett J. Platt, 71, of Tiverton, passed away on July 2, 2009 at home after a 9 month battle with lung cancer. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Wentworth) Platt, to whom he had been married for 16 years. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Everett H. Platt and the late Bertha E. (Parent) Platt. Since 1961, Everett had been a disabled Air Force veteran. In his earlier years, he would be seen riding his three wheel pedal bike in the Stafford/Crandall Road area of Tiverton with his faithful dog, Missy, running beside him. After his marriage, he moved to North Tiverton where he would be seen riding his yellow mag-wheeled motorized vehicle (his "Cadillac") from the Fall River line to Grinnell's Beach and everywhere in between. Mr. Platt, a proud member of the Tiverton Lions Club since 1992, served as the Tail Twister for many years. He also thoroughly enjoyed spending time on the computer, especially playing pool, dominoes and cards with his many friends on Pogo.com. He also kept in touch with family and friends on a daily basis via e-mail. Besides his wife he leaves a son, Gordon K. Platt of Rochester Hills, Michigan and two daughters, Linda Lee Platt of Wales, Michigan, and Janet I. Platt of Port Huron, Michigan, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, all of Michigan. He was predeceased by his sister, Judith (Platt) Soares.
Relatives and friends gathered for a memorial service at the Amicable Congregational Church in Tiverton RI. Everett's committal service was held at Pawtuxet Memorial Park.
