Fernando S. Costa, of Fall River, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2019 in Mass General Hospital with his family by his side at the age of 69. He was the husband of Lucia (Moreira) Costa. He was born in Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores and was a son of the late Sidonio Senica and Julia (Cabral) Costa. Fernando was a welder for many years here in Fall River, with the American Dryer Company. Mr. Costa loved animals, and was a huge Benfica fan, mostly because of their color, red, his favorite color. He had also served in the Portuguese Army, serving during the Guninea-Bisau War of Independence. Besides his wife of 50 years, he is survived by: his children, Lucy Gillet and her husband, Mario Silva, and Paulo Costa and his wife, Stephanie, both of Fall River; three grandchildren, Jordan Silva, Scott Silva and Serina Costa; one great grandchild, Damien Silva; four siblings, Julio Costa of Portugal, Filomena Batista, Delfina Mendes, and Julia Bedard, all of Fall River. He was the brother of the late Joana Silva. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, November 22nd, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
