Fernando Rodrigues, 90, son of the late Antonio Rodrigues and Maria Augusta (Rebello) Rodrigues, died peacefully at home, in Fall River, surrounded by his family on Jan 24, 2009. He was the devoted husband of the late Eliza (Ramos) Rodrigues. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Nevada BB-36. Born in Valley Falls, RI, he was educated in Viseu, Portugal and returned to the United States at the age of 18. Mr. Rodrigues then lived in Westport for a short time before moving to Fall River with his bride, where he lived for 71 years. Fernando retired at age 62 after being employed with Rocco Germaine Construction as a foreman. He is a 50+ year member of Local 610, a member of The Portuguese Continental Union, Portuguese War Veterans, and recipient of the Key to the City of Fall River on his 90th birthday. He was also an avid traveler and member of The Royal Traveler's. Father of Albert Rodrigues (his wife Norbina) of Somerset, Fall River City Councilor Linda Pereira (her husband Louis) and the late Dennis Rodrigues. Survived by former daughters-in-law Rita Rodrigues of Dartmouth and Phyllis Rodrigues of FL, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Antonio Rodrigues and Violinda Duarte. His funeral Mass was celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church. Pallbearers Tom, Philip, Michael, Rick and Stephanie Rodrigues, Shelly Codega, Megan Rose and Marcy Fasano brought Fernando to his final resting place at Newport Memorial Park in Middletown, RI.
