Florence Travassos, 91, of Somerset, passed away Thursday at St Luke's Hospital, New Bedford. Widow of Henry Travassos. A Barrington, RI native, daughter of the late Pietro and Angelina (Ciallella) Calitri. Mrs Travassos was a graduate of the Leander R. Peck School in Barrington, Class of 1937. She was a homemaker and over the years provided before- and after-school care for a number of neighborhood children who delighted in the whoopie pies she baked for them. Flo loved having yard sales and is especially remembered by her sisters for being a fun-loving companion in the days when a single roller skate clamped onto one's shoe served as a scooter and a large piece of cardboard became a sled to slide down snow-covered neighborhood hills. Beloved mother of Richard Travassos (wife-Dena) of CA and the late Harry Travassos; grandmother of Rochelle, Richard, and Nathan Travassos; great grandmother of Zerrina, Angel, and Zanden; sister of Olympia Sousa of East Providence, RI, Violet DeTora of FL, Angelo Calitri of NC and the late Anna DiMario, Gloria Calitri, Evelyn Conlon and Peter Calitri.
She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Her funeral Mass was celebrated in St John of God Church. She was laid to rest at Notre Dame Cemetery in Fall River.
