Obituary

Francisco M. "Chico" Coelho, 68, of Westport, passed away peacefully at home on July 23, 2025. Born on the island of Terceira in the Azores, Portugal, Francisco emigrated to the United States in 1970's in search of new opportunities and a better life. Francisco was the only child of the late Francisco P. Coelho and Maria de Lordes (DaCosta) Coelho.

He was a skilled and hardworking man; he spent part of his career as a truck driver for a local distribution company. He eventually became a carpenter by trade and worked for many years with F.C. Construction of Tiverton and was a proud member of Local 610.

Francisco was the beloved husband of the late Maria F. Coelho, with whom he shared 38 years of marriage. He is survived by his only daughter, Grace Coelho, and his loyal grand-dog, Ben, who brought him endless companionship, comfort, and joy.

Francisco made his home in Westport for the past 20 years, where he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. With his inventive mind, he was very adept at building things and finding ways to fix almost anything. He loved working in his yard, tending to his small farm, and caring for his animals. His passion for the land and his connection to nature were a reflection of his roots and deep Azorean heritage. Francisco also loved to travel and cherished every opportunity to return to his homeland of Terceira.

He will be remembered for his quiet strength, enduring work ethic, and his devotion to family and traditions. His presence will be deeply missed. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, July 30th, at St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery both in Fall River.
