Frank S. Benevides, Jr, age 82, of Somerset, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2008 at the Crawford Skilled Nursing Center in Fall River, following an illness. He was the husband of Hortense (Rocha) Benevides. Born in Somerset, he was the son of the late Frank S. Benevides, Sr. and the late Wilhelmina (Correa) Benevides. A lifelong resident of Somerset, he was an instrument technician, employed at Montaup Electric for thirty two years until his retirement in 1988. He was a graduate of the former Durfee Technical School in Fall River and the Rhode Island Radio and Electronics School in Providence, RI. Frank was a ham radio operator for many years and a member of the Fall River Amateur Radio Club, his call sign was W1BOJ. He also worked to provide relief to victims of disaster as a volunteer with the American Red Cross and the Somerset Civil Defense. In addition to his wife, Hortense, family members include his son, Frank S. Benevides, III, and his wife Claudia M. Benevides, of Somerset, a sister, Joan Benevides of Reading, MA, a grandson, Nicholas E. Benevides and several nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass was celebrated in St. John of God Church. Committal Servcie was held at St Patrick Cemetery in Somerset.
