Obituary

Frank J. Lopes, 88, of Fall River, husband of Rita (Valois) Lopes, passed away at home surrounded by family on Sunday, May 28, 2023. Born in Dartmouth, he was a son of the late Antone J. Lopes and the late Edna (Medeiros) Lopes.

A foreman for many years with DiMartino Construction of Franklin, MA, specializing in building gas stations, Frank also ran his own construction company. Prior to working construction, at a young age he worked on farms, in butcher shops, and later became a manager of fish markets.

A very active, and the longest standing, member of the Holy Ghost Club of Westport, Frank had served in all the offices, including president for many years. He enjoyed dancing, traveling and going on cruises, as well as cooking, dining out and his Captain Apple. Frank especially enjoyed the tradition of Wednesday family dining night. Diagnosed with ALS in 1992, he was affectionately cared for and very much loved by his wife Rita, and often referred to her as his "Angel".

Besides his wife, he is survived by: three children, Mark Lopes of Nantucket, Debra Hart of Fall River, and Raymond Lopes of Fall River; two sisters, Mary Wetherell (late husband Crawford "Babe") of Westport and Genevieve Ksen (Paul Deforge) of Fall River; three grandchildren, Chad Hart of New Bedford, Jameson Hart (wife Vanessa) of Swansea, and Brittany Hart of Fall River; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Antone Lopes, (wife Helen of Taunton) and George Lopes (wife Pauline of Dartmouth).

Following a private cremation, His Memorial Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, June 16th, in Espirito Santo Church  followed  by a private committal and burial of his cremains at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Frank's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; 800-805-5856; https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html
