Fred R.
Silvia
d. Oct 8, 2026
Fall River
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Fred Silvia, 85, of Fall River, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
Born in Fall River, he was the eldest son of the late Manuel and Beatrice (Martin) Silvia. He was also the brother of the late Kenneth Silvia, of Jamestown, RI.
Fred lived his life defined by his deep devotion to his family, his friendships and his faith. He was a very kind and humble man who never spoke loudly in order to be heard. His presence, loyalty to others and great sense of humor spoke for him. He was always there for those he loved and made sure they were always taken care of.
He was the beloved husband of Irene (Costa) Silvia, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. From the moment they met, they were truly inseparable. Their life together was anchored in love and support, spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was also the wonderful father of two daughters: The eldest Karen (Silvia) Rego and her husband Norman, of Westport, MA, and Lisa Silvia, of Nakomis, FL.; two grandchildren, Justin Rego and Caitlin (Fisher) Freney (husband Ethan) and great-grandchildren Eleanor and Callan Freney. Fred also leaves behind his cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
He didn’t just tell his family he loved them, he showed them by being a tireless supporter and encourager. He exemplified unconditional love. He sat in the stands at sports events, attended class concerts, swimming lessons, and built snow men in the backyard.
Fred worked for the City of Fall River as a water meter inspector for 50 years before retiring in 2020.
Fred will be remembered for his kindness and selflessness, and his legacy will live on through all that were privileged to know him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
