Gabriel R. Carreiro, 93, of Fall River, husband of the late Mary (Freitas) Carreiro, passed away Friday, December 23, 2016, at the Kindred Highlander Nursing Care Center. Born in Agua Retorta, St. Michael, Azores, son of the late Manuel & Rosa (Mateus) Carreiro, he grew up in Ponta Delgada and in 1954 emigrated to Fall River, where he lived most of his life, having also lived in Somerset for several year in the mid-1960s.

Gabe was employed for many years for various companies in the local area textile industry, including about 10 years with Decorator Fabric of Pawtucket, RI. He then worked at Charlton Memorial Hospital, in its housekeeping department, for over 7 years. He was a former member of the St. Anthony of Padua Church Holy Name Society, and the Don Carlos Club.

He leaves: 3 stepdaughters, Anna Garcia & Helena Khoury both of Fall River, and Louisa Reis of Bridgewater; 1 sister, Maria Marcelino of Fall River; 10 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was also father of the late John Carreiro (whose wife, Shirley, lives in Westport); and brother of the late Martina Carreiro Marcelino, Fernanda Sobreiro, Manuel, Jose & Viriato Carreiro.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, December 28th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
