Gary R. Mello, 56, loving husband of Cynthia (Nordeste) Mello of 34 years, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, July 30, 2021 after a hard-fought battle with brain cancer. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Manuel S. Mello and late Irma S. (Silva) Mello, of Somerset.
Gary was an accountant at his brother's accounting firm, Michael C. Mello, CPA, for 34 years, earning his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (SMU) and his Master of Business Administration from Providence College. In addition, he dedicated 20 years to the Swansea Somerset Youth Soccer League as a coach and Treasurer of the Board of Directors, and was honored by the league in 2019 for his years of service. A dedicated father, he coached all four of his children in recreational and competitive youth soccer, basketball, baseball, and softball. Gary also volunteered as a stage manager for every one of his daughter's dance recitals. Gary's family was his world. He loved vacationing, spending time with friends and family, and was always making those around him laugh. He was also a communicant of St. John of God Church in Somerset.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by: his children, Jessica N. Mello and her husband, Dusty Cyr, of Fall River, Julie M. Mello, Kevin E. Mello, and Keith A. Mello, all of Somerset; his sisters, Catherine E. Cabral and her husband, Joseph, and Christine M. Dolph, both of Somerset; one brother, Michael C. Mello and his wife, Susan M., of Somerset; in-laws, Dorothy M. Nordeste (late husband, Edward), Paul Gariepy (wife Karen Gariepy) of Swansea, Trish Sullivan (husband Jud Sullivan) of Somerset, Nancy Sullivan (husband Barry Sullivan) of Somerset, Karen Nordeste (companion Paulo Correia) of Fall River; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Manuel Stephen Mello and brother-in-law of the late Ricky Gariepy.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, August 6th, at St. John of God Church in Somerset followed by his private committal at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Gary's Memory to: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 North Main St., Natick, MA, 01760 or We Love Children Fund, 262 North Marion St., Fall River, MA, 02723.
