Obituary

George P. Aguiar, 91, of Dighton, husband of the late Lorraine A. (Medeiros) Aguiar, passed away at home on Friday, January 6, 2023. Born in Fall River, the son of the late Manuel P. Aguiar and the late Mary (Farias) Aguiar, he resided in Fall River most of his life, living in Dighton for the past three years, and had also wintered in Fort Myers Beach, FL, for many years.

Owner and operator of the Stafford Square ARCO gas station and auto repair shop, formerly on Pleasant St in Fall River, for 35 years, George was also the CEO and President of R. A. Wilcox school and paper supply company formerly of Bedford St. in Fall River, for 10 years. He was a longtime real estate broker and had served as a Westport police officer for five years. George served his country honorably in the U. S. Army National Guard, retiring after 24 years in 1991 as Master Sergeant.

A former member of the Knights of Columbus, George had also served on various committees at the Church of the Ascension in Fort Myers Beach. He was an avid Patriots & Red Sox fan, and enjoyed boxing in the Police Athletic League in his younger days.

He is survived by: two children, Lynne M. Argo of Dighton, and George R. Aguiar of Fort Myers, FL; two grandchildren, Tiffany L. Argo and Elan A. Sousa; three great grandchildren, Caylee, Karter, and Lincoln; and several nieces/nephews. He was also the brother of the late Irene Howell.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, January 11th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal with military honors at St. Patrick Cemetery both in Fall River.
