George
Barboza
d. Feb 16, 2022
George "Barb" Barboza, 95, of Westport, husband of the late Mary Irene (Furtado) Barboza, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Manuel L. Barboza and the late Maria (Andrade) Barboza, he lived in Fall River most of his life, residing in Westport for the past 18 years.
He was employed with the former Sarama Lighting for about 35 years – retiring in 1987. He had also worked for a time at Artcraft. A soccer hall-of-famer, George was a longtime member of the Young Nationals. An avid fisherman and sports enthusiast, he also enjoyed dancing and travelling. All who knew him would agree that George was a genuinely nice guy, a positive energy, and truly "a lover, not a fighter" (as he would say of himself).
Survived by several nieces, nephews, and godchildren, he was also the brother of the late Manuel "Larry" Barboza, Jr., Alfred D. "Butch" Barboza, and Mary Barboza.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, February 23rd, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in George's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; 800-805-5856; https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html
