Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of George Raymond Ethier, 78, of Tiverton Rhode Island.

George fought a long and courageous battle with his illness and succumbed to complications on September 15, 2026, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River surrounded by his adoring family.

George was born in Fall River, Massachusetts to Mary F. and George N. Ethier. He had three sisters, Evelyn, Marilyn and Madeline and a brother, Norman.

He served in the U.S. Navy, was a Vietnam Veteran and received an Honorable Discharge in December of 1971.

After receiving an Associate’s Degree from Fisher Jr. College, he worked for Burns Power Tools for many years and GM Refrigeration for a short time. In 1990, George began his career as a mechanical engineering technician at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, Rhode Island, the Navy’s center for research and development, until his retirement in 2011.

While serving in the Navy and on an oversea tour, George met his wife, Morag, in Scotland. After a brief courtship, they married in January 1971, and three years later they were blessed with a son, Michael George Ethier.

George is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Morag, his son Michael and daughter-in-law Fabia, grandsons, McClain, Ayden, Liam, Benjamin and Greyson and his granddaughter, Aislinn, as well as his adopted grandchildren Skyler and Hannah. He is survived by his sisters, Marilyn Johnson of Asheville, NC and Madeline Simmons of Rehoboth, and his brother Norman of Maine. He leaves behind several devoted nieces and nephews and loving family members in Australia, Spain and England.
