George Henry Gingras, Jr, age 57, of Swansea, MA, died at home unexpectedly on Friday, September 19, 2008. Born in Fall River, he was the loving son of George Henry Gingras, Sr., of Somerset, MA, and the late Elizabeth E. (Adams) Gingras. A Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he was wounded in combat during the Vietnam War. In addition to the Purple Heart, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. Among the skills he learned in the service was operating a bulldozer and after his discharge from the Marine Corps, he resided and worked in Alaska for seven years, and Hawaii for four years, before returning to Massachusetts. George loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and running the dogs Susie and O'Jessy, his faithful Black Labrador Retrievers. He will be missed by his three sisters, Elizabeth Estrella of Homosassa, Florida, Geraldine Cozort of Matthews, North Carolina, and Priscilla Annotti of Somerset. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. George was cremated on Tuesday, September 23, 2008. His cremated remains will be present for a Memorial Service, with Military Honors, to be held at the Silva-Faria Somerset Funeral Home, 84 County Street, Somerset, at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 27, 2008. Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family at the Funeral Home at 2:00 PM, one hour prior to his Memorial Service.
