George C. Howayeck, 92, of Fall River, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Charles and Labiby Howayeck and brother to the late Rena Nassr, Elaine Howard, Louis Howayeck, and Doris Howard.

A Veteran of the Korean War, he served his country in combat in the forty-fifth infantry division. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal Bronze Star, Army Occupation Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and a Combat Infantry Badge. His service ended upon receiving injuries from a hand grenade for which he was awarded the Purple Heart.

After being honorably discharged, he returned home to marry his sweetheart, Florence (Sarkees) Howayeck, with whom he celebrated sixty-eight happy years of marriage. He received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering but went on to pursue a career in teaching, and he received a Master's degree in education. He taught science at Henry Lord Junior High School, where he would later become principal until his retirement.

George was a long-time member of St. Anthony of the Desert Church, the Lebanon American Society of Fall River, and the Veterans Association of Bristol County. He was an avid sports fan and loved the ocean, the outdoors, and spending his time fishing, golfing, and preparing fish fries and clam boils for his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Florence and their four children Gail Gabriel and her husband, Pierre, of Scituate, MA, Lois Hagopian and her husband, Greg, of Easton, MA, George Howayeck, Jr., and Gary Howayeck and his wife, Renee, both of Fall River; ten grandchildren,  Rachel Gabriel Olson, J.P. Gabriel, Jeffrey Gabriel, Sara Hagopian, Andrew Howayeck, Julie Hagopian, Miranda Howayeck, Nicolas Howayeck, Daniel Howayeck, Matthew Howayeck and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Leyla.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, January 22nd, in St. Anthony of the Desert Church followed by his private committal and entombment with military honors at the Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum.
