George G. Parent, age 86, of Swansea, Massachusetts, passed away on Friday, September, 16, 2011, at the Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Mary (Ryan) Parent. Born in Somerset he was a son of the late Aristide Parent and the late Concord (Chouinard) Parent. Although raised in Somerset, he was a resident of Swansea for most his life and was employed as a carpenter with the Haskon Corporation in Taunton, for forty years. George was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 303 in Swansea. He was a trumpet player for many years with the former Mel-O-Tones band and was also a bugler while in the Navy. He was an avid golfer and could be found on the links nearly every day as a member of the Touisset Country Club in Swansea. When not on the golf course he enjoyed trips with the Royal Travelers. George was a communicant of the former St. Michael's Church in Swansea, and a member of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America, Local 204, Northeast Region. Surviving family members include his two daughters, Deborah Simons of Swansea, and Wendy Allen of Berkley, MA, five grandchildren, Rebecca Bettencourt, Justin Raposa, Jacob Raposa, Ryan Simons and Jessica Allen, five great grandchildren, Jenna Medeiros, Victoria Bettencourt, David DaSilva III, Caleb Simons and Jackson Raposa, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Kenneth Parent, and brother of the late Albert Parent, Russell Parent and Margie Bouchard. A Memorial Mass was celebrated on Monday, September 26, in St. Louis De France Church in Swansea followed by a committal for His Cremains St Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
