Gerald C.
Perry
d. Aug 27, 2024
Gerald "Jerry" Perry, 68 of Fall River, passed away on August 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in New Bedford as the third son of the late Mary (Medeiros) Perry and Manuel C. Perry of Fall River.
Jerry is the beloved husband to Alison (Medeiros) Perry of Fall River and was most proud of his three children Gerald J. Colello (son of Karen Colello), Grace M. Perry and Curtis C. Perry of Fall River. He is a brother to Donald C. Perry (wife Karen) of Ashland and the late Steven C. Perry (former wife Diane) of Fairhaven. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as his faithful dog, Cooper C. Perry.
Jerry was an outstanding baseball and football player for the BMC Durfee Hilltoppers, class of 1975. He attended the University of New Haven and the University of Alabama prior to beginning his minor league pitching career with the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals. Passionate about coaching, Jerry dedicated many years to teaching children of all ages the sport he loved. He coached three all-star teams into World Series tournaments including Fall River's 2000 Colt League team that ranked 2nd in the world. Jerry's contributions to baseball were recognized with his 2004 induction into the Durfee Athletic Hall of Fame.
Jerry was formerly employed with the Fall River Gas Co. and the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health for many years prior to retiring in 2020. He enjoyed his retirement by spending quality time with family and friends. He was an active member of the former Boys Club Senior Division, Fall River YMCA, and Lakeville Country Club. He spent his days on the golf course, Florida beaches, playing pitch, and attending local sports games. Jerry was a fun spirit with a passion for cooking, a big personality, and a loving heart. He always had a positive outlook on life. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who ever met him.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, September 7th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery. Please continue to honor the game of baseball and golf in Jerry Perry's memory.
