Gerard Guilmette, Sr., 81, of Somerset, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday. He was the husband of Hilda (Medeiros) Guilmette, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. Born in Fall River, son of the late Leon and Marie "Amanda" (Carrier) Guilmette. A Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Army, he worked for the Fall River Department of Public Works. He loved to read, enjoyed dancing and trips to Foxwoods. Survivors include a son, Gerard Guilmette, Jr.; a daughter, Eydie Furtado; a brother, Arthur "Pete" Guilmette; a sister, Germaine Priest; grandchildren, Sarah Furtado and Steven Furtado; and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Antoine and Roland Guilmette, Theresa Bernier and Juliette Dicke. On Monday, August 16, his Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Thomas More Church followed by a committal service at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River. His pallbearers were his son, Gerard Guilmette Jr., along with Mark, Steven, Stevie and Justin Furtado.
